Kinokuni

Kinokuni Children's Village, a co-educational boarding school, is the first alternative school authorized by Japanese MIXT (the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). The school was started in 1992 by Shin-ichiro Hori and his company, who were inspired by the works of John Dewey and A.S.Neill (Summerhill School, England. 1920-present), opened Kinokuni Children's Village in 1992.
The school emphasizes children's learning by experiences and their intellectual, emotional and social development through living together with others.

Summerhill School

A.S Neill's Summerhill School, a co-educational boarding school in Suffolk, England, is the original alternative 'free' school. Founded in 1921, it continues to be an influential model for progressive, democratic education around the world.

Sands School

At Sands School, we value people as individuals. Students are free to be themselves, and to explore their own paths through education. Staff are able to teach their subjects to GCSE free of the strict guidelines of the national curriculum.
There are no uniforms, no petty rules resulting in detentions, and everyone is on first name terms. All are equal.

Sudbury Valley

At Sudbury Valley School, students from preschool through high school age explore the world freely, at their own pace and in their own unique ways. They learn to think for themselves, and learn to use Information Age tools to unearth the knowledge they need from multiple sources. They develop the ability to make clear logical arguments, and deal with complex ethical issues. Through self-initiated activities, they pick up the basics; as they direct their lives, they take responsibility for outcomes, set priorities, allocate resources, and work with others in a vibrant community.

The Alternative Education
Resource Organization

AERO was founded in 1989 by Jerry Mintz.
AERO is a branch of the School of Living, a non-profit organization founded in 1934 by Ralph Borsodi. AERO's goal is to advance student-driven, learner-centered approaches to education. AERO is considered by many to be the primary hub of communications and support for educational alternatives around the world.
"AERO's mission is to help create an education revolution to make student-centered alternatives available to everyone."

Educational Heretics Press

We are a small press that exists to question the dogmas and superstitions of mass, coercive schooling, with its roots in totalitarian thinking, with a view to developing the next modern, humane, flexible, personalised effective public learning system – one fit for a progressive democracy that provides genuine choice from a menu of ‘alternatives for everybody, all the time’.
